Pitch
Speed
calculates
speed of a baseball based on a very simple formula. The
user stores distance between home plate and pitchers
mound in settings. The user waits for pitcher to throw
the ball. A button is pressed once when pitcher releases
the ball. The same button is pressed again when the ball
hits the catcher's mitt. The program meaures the time
between the two events. Speed is calculated as distance
divided by time, and displayed in miles per Hour. It
takes a little practice, but after a few minutes fairly
good results are obtained.
The app
has several cool features.
Mound Distance can be changed.
Standard distances for
MLB, softballl and little league can be selected. Press
'android menu >> settings >> mound distance'.
Custom
Distance can be entered
Custom distance can be
used for other leagues or to select a distance that the
user feels takes into account the pitcher's actual
release point. Press 'android menu >> settings
>> custom distance'.
View
History
At any time, the user
can view a list of pitch speeds that have been recorded.
Press 'android menu >> show history'.
Add Comment
For the sake of making
the history more meaningful, the user can insert comments
into the history.The comment is added to the simple list
of speeds, The comment will appear in the history after
the most recently thrown pitch. This can be very helpful
to mark inning change, pitcher change or significant
event - strike out, home run, etc. Press 'android menu
>> add comment'.
Share
The program has the
capability to email pitch speed history - as a text file
attachment. Press 'android menu >> share', your
email program will open (or a mail chooser if you don't
have a default). You can enter an email address, and
press send. You will have the text file on your computer
when you get home. You can also enter a default email
address in the settings area so that you do not need to
enter the adress each time you send.
Save
The program has the
capability to save the history file to the sd card. In
order to do this you must have an sd card, and you must
turn on 'use sd crd' in the settings page of this app.
Press 'android menu >> save'. A dialog box will pop
up, asking you to input a file name. After you enter a
file name and press OK, the file will be saved on your sd
card. it can be tranferred to your pc using USB, or can
be viewed on the phone using apps like ES File Explorer.
The file can be found in a folder named 'Pitcher'.
Delete
History
At any time the current
history can be deleted using 'android menu >>
delete history'.
Pitch Count
Pitch Count can be
displayed after each pitch. When this feature is turned
on, a brief pop-up will show pitch count after each
pitch. Visit the settings page to turn this on. Press
'android menu >> settings >> pitch count'.
